Managing Process Platform Licenses |
|
Usually, customers pay for the software based on its the usage in a given time period, which could be one month. The software product used by the customer could be any of the following:
- Process Platform Product - This is owned by Process Platform. In this case, the customer pays Process Platform for the use of the product.
- Product - an Application Package (ISV) based product built using the components of Process Platform. Here, the customer pays Process Platform for use of the Process Platform components and the Application Package for the part of the product that is owned by it.
Process Platform Licensing enables the invoicing described above, by providing the information necessary for billing the customers, to both Process Platform and to the Application Packages. This information is presented in the form of a report, that contains the number of users of Process Platform.
For a given period of time (usually one month), such a report is generated by each customer. Based on the report received, the licenses to continue the use of Process Platform are issued to the customer. Therefore, to continue using the Application, the customer is required to send such reports periodically (monthly), and receive the necessary license. If the report is not sent as required, the license is not renewed, and hence the customer can no longer use the product.
A Usage Report is generated for every Process Platform Site, which has one or more Process Platform products or Application Packages installed. This report contains the number of uniquely named users for that site. The information from the Usage Report is used by both Process Platform and the Application Packages for billing the customer.
On receipt of the Usage Report, a License Key is sent to the customer. This License Key enables the customer to continue using the Application Package. This License Key is generated by the Process Platform License Service.
There are two types of License Keys in Process Platform. The type of key issued to a Customer depends upon the registration details of the site. The two types of keys are described below:
- Demo License Key - This key is valid for 60 days, from the date of issue. The customer can use the product for the prescribed period, after which the license key expires.
- Operational License Key - This key is valid for 60 days, from the date of issue. To renew the license key, the customer is expected to send the Usage Report every month to the Process Platform License Service. On receipt of a valid Usage Report, the License Service issues a new operational license key for the customer.
The License Keys are encrypted and are stored in LDAP.
You can manage Process Platform licenses through the following tasks:
- Viewing Usage Report
- Configuring the Delivery Mode of Usage Report
- Viewing Master Usage Report
- Sending Master Usage Report to the Licensing Server
- Updating the License Key
- Modifying the License Key
- Sending Usage Report when the Computer is Connected to Internet through Proxy
- Modifying License Key through Management Console , when Process Platform browser is not accessible. This can happen when OpenText Process Suite Platform (<instance name>) does not start or the Process Platform license has expired. A temporary license key is generated and sent to the user using which the Process Platform browser can be started. User can then send the Usage report and update the license information through License Manager.
